EVALUATING AN AUTOMATED OBJECT-ORIENTED METHOD TO DELINEATE DRUMLINS FROM BOTH TERRESTRIAL AND SUBMARINE DIGITAL ELEVATION MODELS

چکیده
Abstract. In the field of geomorphological mapping, demand for automated delineation bedforms is growing due to increasing availability Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) in small medium resolutions. This technique not commonly applied submarine DEMs, where bedform morphology often subdued erosion and part-burial. Here we analyse drumlins both terrestrial environments compare contrast set rules needed their from 3D topographic data. An existing extraction delineate perimeter was developed 2011 using object-oriented classification tools, available through eCognition Developer (V.8.7.2). partly supervised method evaluated here subsequently adjusted be extract a DEM with higher resolution. Several adjustments were morphologic differences between drumlins. For drumlins, focus on variation elevation tool needed, as part-burial overprinting by other common settings. A Canny Edge Detector filter used instead Sobel detection filter, whilst slope gradient direction played larger role rules. Visual quantitative comparison manually delineated drumlin perimeters confirms success this revised environments. The flexibility precision thus allow future development tools wide range large-scale DEMs collected all

Land-surface segmentation to delineate elementary forms from Digital Elevation Models
In this paper, we introduce an algorithm to delineate elementary forms on Digital Elevation Models (DEMs). Elementary forms are defined by constant values of fundamental morphometric properties and limited by discontinuities of these properties. A multiresolution segmentation technique was customized to partition the layers of altitude derivatives into homogeneous divisions through a self-scala...
متن کاملAutomated Method Induction: Functional Goes Object Oriented
The development of software engineering has had a great deal of benefits for the development of software. Along with it came a whole new paradigm of the way software is designed and implemented object orientation. Today it is a standard to have UML diagrams automatically translated into program code wherever possible. However, as few tools really go beyond this we demonstrate a simple functiona...
متن کاملFrom Domain Models to Hypermedia Applications: an Object-Oriented Approach
In this paper we present an object-oriented method for designing hypermedia applications. The approach divides the development process in four steps, namely: domain (or content) design, navigational design, abstract interface design and implementation. We use similar modeling primitives (object and classes) and abstraction mechanisms (aggregation, generalization), during the whole process thus ...
متن کاملEvaluating digital elevation models for glaciologic applications: An example from Nevado Coropuna, Peruvian Andes
This paper evaluates the suitability of readily available elevation data derived from recent sensors – the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) and the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) – for glaciological applications. The study area is Nevado Coropuna (6426 m), situated in Cordillera Ampato of Southern Peru. The glaciated area was 82.6 km in 1962, based...
